In this video diptych, two modern cultural sites, which have marked the city where they are found and are in the process of disappearing, alternate in fixed shots: the Place des Nations of the 1967 World’s Fair and the Montreal Hippodrome.
Figures wearing headphones stationed about these vast deserted premises unspool sound recording tape as if, with this old-fashioned material, they had to figure out the sound track arising from the images.
The voice of the racetrack announcer, filmed at his work station, punctuates the shots of these abandoned spaces; the camera operator swivels his camera from within a strange cabin while listening to rock music; and then there comes a storm.
