Syntoniser – Night Park (Tune In – Night Park) is an installation whose starting point is a run-down but still functioning drive-in movie theatre. The camera examines the nocturnal activities that take place there off-screen. Images of viewers walking about the grounds are superimposed on shots of a hotel being demolished.
These amalgams of sites and media, taken from video footage, medium-format photographs and 16mm film footage, introduce a layer of fiction to the initial site and highlight how images are made and their narrative potential.
In a structure the shape of a trapezium reminiscent of the drive-in theatre’s projection booth, the backs of the screens and the beam of light, a projected image made out of video and 16mm film footage shows us the projector, its reflected light and the unspooling reel of film, at times in superimposition.
